Use SMS forum constructively

EDITOR — I wish to congratulate your newspaper for creating a readers’ feedback forum — an SMS page.

From what I see when I manage to get The Herald, it looks like people are very eager to contribute.

This is positive because people get an opportunity to air their views to whomever, be it the Head of State and Government or the ordinary man or woman on the street.

Some of the issues that I have seen dominating on this SMS forum are to do with the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

It is very disturbing when law enforcers become the talk of the country on a daily basis, and negatively too.

Soccer issues are also a hit with Zifa constantly in the limelight.

The other hits are musicians.

When Alick Macheso’s alleged extra-marital affair was published, it was as though every reader in every part of the country wanted to say something.

He was berated, left, right and centre.

Then recently, after the release of his album, which came out almost at the same time with Tongai Moyo’s, their "fans" are outdoing each other to prove who the king of sungura is.

However, while at face value it might look like these messages are coming from various people countrywide, is that the case?

Why are some of the messages, whether praising and/or denigrating these musicians look similar?

As a reader, I ask Macheso and Dhewa’s fans whether the CDs they are playing are original? Did they spend their hard-earned cash acquiring these CDs or tapes?

What has surprised me about these fans is that they are giving rave reviews of these albums when the real issue every musician is facing right now is piracy?

If people can condemn ZRP and Zifa for corruption, why are the same people silent about how most people are acquiring music?
